Top Ten Tips For Soulful Entrepreneurs
There’s no doubt about it, this is the most exciting time in history for entrepreneurs.
There is more technology in my handbag than existed on the planet 20 years ago, and I can work from wherever in the World with web connection, including the beaches of Hawaii, mountains of Tahoe or even the middle of the Amazon jungle. It’s a cool time to take off on your own and create something from the heart, not to mention the fact that most entrepreneurs genuinely want their businesses to stand for something, to have meaning, and make a difference in the World.
The entrepreneurs of 2010 aren’t just ‘in it for the money’; we are hungry to be part of a global paradigm shift. In our own small way we desire to become agents of change through the way we live, love, and envision the promise and potential in ourselves, our ventures, our staff clients and our collective future as a human family. Idealistic? Sure! But what better time than the ‘tipping point’ of 2010 to take quantum leaps and forward somersaults into the entrepreneurs Life? A life of challenge, intense experience, and massive rewards- that might just result in true ongoing transformation for yourself and your World!
Here are my 10 top tips for entrepreneurs:
- Love Who You Are- ‘Being’ necessarily comes before ‘doing’. In order to experience real success- i.e. fulfillment on all levels- spiritual, financial, physical and emotional you first need to feel valuable and worthy in every cell of your body. If you have issues around self-esteem they will show up pretty quickly and sabotage your business. It is possible to boost your confidence, self esteem and general well being- and it’s not only free but it’s available to us all. Take a daily practice of 20 minutes ‘sunbathing’ – sitting in the sun of your being and experiencing your true value. If you don’t, you’ll always be seeking approval from others and trying to ‘get’ something only you can give to yourself.
- Love what you do- Do what really inspires you and makes you happy. Whatever you are pursuing, make it worthy of your highest self. Find the thing that makes you really ‘come alive’ and be sure to sing your own song. I love the saying to ‘be yourself- everyone else is taken’ and in business I think this is true for long-term success. When you find something that makes you feel that alive, tingling, happy vibe then follow it -with your whole heart, because it is a sure sign you will meet with success. Never do anything just for the cash- apart from being unworthy of your true nature that just won’t hold in 2010 and beyond.
- Live in your gifts… outsource the rest- Life is too short for you to be stuck doing everything in your business and doing your own admin or books (unless that is your greatest gift) is a false economy. Even though you might wonder how you will afford it you must get support and get stuck into what you do best. You have to trust that the £20 an hour you pay your PA will come back to you 10-fold when you start to value your time. Your time is your life- and the one thing you can’ get back.
- Share what you love & share more of yourself- With twitter, facebook, and all the other ways we connect you can’t get away in biz in 2010 without being real- more and more people want authenticity and people buy from people- ultimately it’s not about clicks, hits, seo, rankings or anything else – it’s really about the magnetism and genuine enthusiasm that you bring to your message and marketing. This is the year of the face- we all want to connect more deeply and feel a sense of community- this is a powerful reason to be yourself, and put more you into your marketing. As John Lennon said to Muhammad Ali at the start of his boxing career- ‘The more real you get, the more unreal its gonna get’
- Love Sales - Sounds obvious I know, but it amazes me how many entrepreneurs don’t like ‘selling’. Listen, I can’t do ’10 top – tips for entrepreneurs’ without this being in here, and you can’t really flourish until you get really comfortable with selling. Maybe you have ideas about what a salesperson is or does, but you must know that there are ways to sell that don’t feel slimy. Fall in love with the idea of helping your prospects make a decision about whether or not your products and services can help them, and if you can’t then genuinely advise them where to go to get help. That makes you a consultant rather than a pursuer and sets you up to succeed. You are on this planet to help more people, if you have got your ‘mojo working’ the ones you can help will connect with you and want to work with you. Simples. Hit the phone and learn to sell if you want that biz to fly- it’s essential!
- Focus On The Flow without cash flow the only way is down. With so many distractions in 2010 you have to keep your eye on the ball- and the ball is your cash flow. Every day you must be focused on the best income generating activity. So many start-up entrepreneurs go get sites, photos, facebook, everything set up and yet aren’t bringing in the cash! It’s like saying you want to find a romantic partner and sitting at home in full make up and your best outfit but never going on a date! You have to get in the game if you want to play- so turn off your email, take some quiet time and get to grips with the numbers and how you can increase them starting today. For more spiritual types, keep in mind that money and spirituality are not mutually exclusive, in fact money is energy, and mastering money is a part of every conscious entrepreneur’s spiritual path.
- Love Your Clients- People know when they are just on a conveyor belt or aren’t appreciated. Let your clients know you love them! They have to come 1st and the little things that let them know you care about them go a long, long way- especially in 2010- where the industries and companies out of integrity are crumbling and people become more disillusioned with powers that be. Genuine authentic leadership and biz is necessarily becoming more and more transparent with the emphasis on sustainability, service and quality. I always notice the extra touch, and often send my clients unexpected gifts or simply give them my number or personal email so they can get hold of me if they need to ask anything after a session. It makes the whole process so much more human and rewarding for both parties.
- Find A Mentor- I love short cuts, hate queuing and prefer not to be stuck in traffic, life or my business. As soon as I start to feel myself slowing down or getting stuck I find someone who is smarter, wiser, more experienced and generally sassier than I am, before I start going backwards. Seek out people for help and advice, and don’t expect to get something for nothing…Most successful entrepreneurs know that you have to be invested if you really are serious about learning from them, it’s how you get yourself to commit and take action on their good advice. Investing in yourself with a mentor is one of the smartest business decisions you can make. When you see that window of opportunity and get the chance to work with someone you just know can help you… walk through- you have to rise up to meet your destiny and your goals, so go the extra mile and invest in yourself with the best mentor you can find. At the same time be sure to…
- Use Your Intuition- Successful entrepreneurs are some of the most intuitive people in the World. Many a mystic is hiding behind that CEO title. Get used to checking inward on your decisions, and hearing your inner wisdom, from the broader eternal part of you. Only you have your vision in mind, and the in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of your business may be only accessible to you. If you know in your heart or gut that something does or doesn’t FEEL right then do something about it- Ignore the voice of your intuition at your own expense!
- Get The Blend Right – Us entrepreneurs can be an ambitious lot, and I’ll confess it’s not uncommon to find me prizing my fingers off the keyboard to go and walk my dog or spend time with my loved ones. I know how important it is to work towards a blend- so make sure you schedule your holidays, free-days and down-time in advance. Base your business around your lifestyle goals as well as your financial ones. Decide how often you want to work and set your lifestyle up so you know what you are aiming for. This is especially important for mum-preneurs and family players who don’t want their life to be all work. To create balance and achieve a healthy blend without burning out you must see to it that your business works on your terms. You’ll find your business can go to new heights when you make time for any courses or events you want to attend and take down time for yourself to re-align, re-charge and switch off.
