A Disaster, Or A Blessing?

Sometimes things can happen in life that seem to be a complete disaster.

Relationships break down, businesses collapse, things just don’t work and we feel powerless and unable to ‘get it right’.

It can take years before we look back and see the blessings that situation had for us- we may have been called to become more of who we are, to step in a direction other than what we had planned for ourselves (that usually turns our better for us in the long run), or to shift or change a belief that doesn’t serve us or anyone such as “I can’t”.

Oftentimes when disaster befalls us we are tempted to blame someone else- we blame the church, the state, our ex, or his/her new partner, we blame the economy, the neighbours, our parents or our spouse…When actually, all along the projection of blame is never really the issue. Even if something is 90% the other persons ‘fault,’ we still have a responsibility to adress the 10% which is ours.

You see, for everything in life there is a reason and a purpose. At times of great chaos we often see huge quantum leaps taking place or great courage and creativity- we get to find out what we are really made of. A good example is the entrepreneur who manages to thrive in a time of chrisis against all odds, or the incredible literature and poetry that came out of ireland during one of the most troubled periods of their history. We must change our perspective on chaos and disaster and see it for what it is if we allow it- opportunity in disguise.

So when the sky seems to be tumbling in and you notice yourself blaming anyone or anything outside of you, simply realsie that you are giving your power away. You are the creator of your World, and everything in it- so if you don’t like what you are experiencing on a day to day basis now may be the greatest potential time to change it, and it all begins with your own heart and mind.

If you want to take back your power today, and do something positive rather than destructive in your life, here are 3 ways that can help:

1) Allow yourself time in nature, to walk, think and breathe. Feel yourself settle into the awesome power of life, and know that that awesome power is inseparable from you. Take a pen and paper with you and jot down your thoughts- what can you commit to today in order to take the chaos around you and turn it into something creative or worthwhile? How can you re-channel any dissappointment you feel and transmute it into an energy that makes you want to take action instead of remain a victim?

2) Do something that terrifies you- invest in yourself with a course, take a new class, meet with different kinds of people or simply make the decision to encounter your fears head on- whatever they may be- speaking in public, sky diving, holding a snake (within reason!)

3) Work with someone who can guide you through this time of challenge and help you to see yourself and your life in new ways such as a coach, tao master, spiritual teacher or counsellor. Just make the decision to stretch yourself, no matter how uncomfortable it has to be better than feeling helpless and refusing to claim your power! You are an important person, with a life to fulfil- discover your true values and priorities and make a commitment to something bigger than yourself! It works wonders and can make a difference to your life on every level.
